Public Narrative was founded out of the belief that a free and informed press, as well as an educated public, are the cornerstones of democracy.

Their work diversifies voices in the news, equips community organizations with media literacy training and resources, connects the community with the media, teaches journalists better issue reporting, and promotes news that matters to the community. Through their work, Public Narrative focuses on shifting narratives around public health, safety, and education.
Mission
Public Narrative has been elevating community voices in journalism for more than 30 years. Their programs support more than 200 community and ethnic news outlets and for-and not-for-profit organizations, building meaningful relationships across Chicago, greater Illinois, and beyond.

Joined CAN TV’s fall programming line-up with “Public Narrative: A Word with Jhmira Alexander,” featuring local visionaries, prominent organizations, and seasoned journalists to advocate for equity and justice
